BELVIDERE, Ill. (WIFR) - The future of Belvidere’s electric vehicle plant enters unchartered territory following President Joe Biden’s departure from the race. Local UAW 1268 President Matt Frantzen says he’s not surprised Biden dropped out, but he’s disappointed by the decision. Biden played a key role in re-opening the Stellantis plant as a manufacturer of electric vehicle parts. Most recently, the Biden administration secured more than $334 million from the Department of Energy to support the shift to EVs. This move is expected to restore nearly 1500 UAW jobs to the city of murals.

DEKALB, Ill. (WIFR) - A judge rules to keep a DeKalb man in jail after he reportedly threatened to assassinate Republican State Rep. Jeff Keicher. Court records show Forrest Brandon, 58, faces a criminal felony charge for threatening the life of a public official. Brandon was arrested Friday, July 19.
