BALTIMORE -- Two children died and two others were injured during a violent week in Baltimore.Since Friday, July 19, youth gun violence has impacted four communities where children 14 years old or younger were either killed or wounded by gunfire.According to police data, in the past 12 months, 12 children were killed and 394 were injured by gun violence in Baltimore City. Omar Passmore, 28, is facing first-degree murder in the July 19 shooting death of 12-year-old Breaunna Cormley inside a home in the 500 block of North Kenwood Avenue. Police said 14-year-old Jasper Davis died from a shooting on July 21 at the Mondawmin Metro Center on Liberty Heights Avenue.Another 14-year-old boy was found injured around midnight on Saturday from a shooting in the 1100 block of North Luzerne Avenue in Southwest Baltimore. A 14-year-old boy was found shot Friday evening in an alley in the 1800 block of West Saratoga Street in Southwest Baltimore.

It was a shocking sight to many on the Bay today: a 122-foot-long yacht, laying on its side in the West River. The superyacht Lovebug, which had been spotted in Annapolis earlier this week, partially capsized at the mouth of the river around 12:30 p.m. Saturday. YMCA Helping Kids Learn to Swim with Free Lessons
Swimming is a life-time skill, and yet many children and adults do not know how to do it. That is why the YMCA in Silver Spring is stepping up to help. This summer, the Silver Spring chapter is providing free swim lessons to 112 children between the ages of 6 and 12. The ‘Learn to Swim Program’ takes place during two summer sessions. Session Two is currently underway. Each child receives eight lessons during the session. The YMCA of the USA provided a grant to help pay for the lessons.
