Self Employment Tax Credit, Freedom Group, and Gold Standard Mortgage

Ramifications from COVID have created many struggles, especially for the Self-Employed. Monica Sheldon has been assisting such individuals with the Self Employment Tax Credit(SETC) program while also being an insurance agent for Freedom Group and loan originator with Gold Standard Mortgage.

In 2012, after earning her degree in communications from Fresno State, Sheldon moved to the Central Coast and began working in the insurance industry. While working at Freedom Group for the past nine years, she became a licensed loan originator and has been with Gold Standard Mortgage in Atascadero for five years. Sheldon specializes in personal lines insurance, such as home, auto, rental property, recreational vehicle, and life insurance.

“Freedom Group started offering SETC sign-up assistance to business owners about a year in a half ago,” she explains. “SETC is for 1099, Sole Proprietor, partnerships, and single member LLCs. If you were affected by COVID you could be eligible for up to $32,200 in tax credits” Especially if you had dependents and had to stay home to care for them whichaffected your ability to work.

“Getting this money back can offset the financial burden that COVID created for some self employed and it can be very helpful after how everyone was and is still affected by COVID,” Sheldon says. SETC is available to claim until April 2025.

Her goal is to promote opportunities for customers that she believes will be beneficial. When individuals come to her, she says, “I feel good that I am able to help out, whether it’s with SETC, Insurance or Home Loans.”

Insurance has been very difficult for homeowners in our area but Sheldon said she still has some markets writing.

In the best interest of her clients, Sheldon is able to provide honest and personalized assistance, whether it involves SETC, insurance, or home loans.
