Local business owner fights acute liver failure
NORTH COUNTY — Alyssa Reid, owner of Bee’s Blossoms in Atascadero, is currently fighting for her life as her body battles acute liver failure. The liver failure started around Thanksgiving of 2023 due to underlying health issues and has progressed quickly since. Reid, who grew up locally and now lives in Paso Robles with her family, has been placed on a liver transplant list that is the only way to save her life.

SLO County jury convicts woman of felony hit-and-run and DUI causing injury
Jury finds Millar guilty of inflicting great bodily injury on the Arroyo Grande Police officer she struck with her car. SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY — A San Luis Obispo County jury has found Laura Lee Millar, 44, of Santa Maria guilty of three of the four charged counts, including felony hit-and-run causing injury, felony driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury, and felony driving with a blood alcohol level exceeding .08 percent causing injury. The jury also found true that Millar personally inflicted great bodily injury on the Arroyo Grande Police officer she struck with her car. They found Millar not guilty of the charge of assault on a peace officer.
Atascadero Chamber uses grant money to create Get Your Business Online program
ATASCADERO — Last year, the Atascadero Chamber of Commerce received grants from San Luis Obispo County for $197,000. The Chamber took the money and sent it back out into the community through their Get Your Business Online program, which helps local businesses create and maintain websites. The current grants will cover costs for two to three years.

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY — One Cool Earth is introducing its new play-based garden enrichment program called the Play Grove. The new program is located at the organization’s new headquarters garden at the San Luis Obispo Jewish Community Center’s 10-acre site near the base of Bishop’s Peak. The outdoor learning space features a large tent for rainy day activities, garden beds for hands-on learning, a beautiful cob oven, and an outdoor kitchen area.
Janet E. (Tarbell) Bryan 1920-2024
Sadly, our dear mother, Janet E. (Tarbell) Bryan, 103 years old, of Paso Robles, California, left us on the evening of January 9, 2024, after a long and full life. Janet was born in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, on February 8, 1920, and grew up there with her parents, Miles and Susie Snyder, brother Ruby Snyder, and her large extended Snyder family on Olive St., more commonly known in town as Snyder Row. In 1940, she decided to join the Navy WAVES. After her training in Oklahoma, she was assigned to California and worked in a highly secured logistics office on Coronado Island, keeping track of all of the ship’s movements. Here is where she met Guy Larry Tarbell, who was also a Navy Officer. They married in 1941, and off they went to continue their service in Anchorage, Alaska.

Timothy F. O’Mahoney, 76, of Monticello, Iowa, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2024. Tim was born on October 14, 1947. He served his country in the United States Army, and following his Honorable Discharge from the military, he worked as a Union Pipefitter.

With 20 years of law enforcement under his belt and eight years of service in the Marine Corps, Suttles has brought a plethora of knowledge to the city since he officially took over on Monday, Jan. 8, of this year.
