Carolyn Jane Roach-Hendershot 1943-2023
Carolyn Jane Roach-Hendershot passed away after a cardiac event on January 15, 2024. Carolyn, known to many as just “MOM,” was a decedent of a founding Paso Robles pioneer family. Born with her twin sister Marilyn to Clifford and Blanche (Brown) Bresette near the end of WWII. She graduated from Paso Robles High School in 1961 and was a Hometown Bearcat fan/supporter. She never missed a game, even if by radio, during her snowbird years in Palm Springs, CA.

Kristin Smart’s family files lawsuit against Cal Poly
SAN LUIS OBISPO — Nearly 28 years since the disappearance of 19-year-old Cal Poly student Kristin Smart, her family is filing a lawsuit against the university. Kristin went missing on Memorial Day weekend in May of 1996 after attending an off-campus party. She was last seen walking back to her dorm with Paul Flores. Since her disappearance, Flores has been the center of police investigations, and in 2021, he was arrested for the murder and disappearance of Kristin alongside his father, who was accused of helping his son hide her body.
Beverly L. Hillman 1928-2023
Beverly Hillman, age 95, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on December 13, 2023, in Paso Robles, California. She had complications from her dementia. She was born on January 4, 1928, in Wichita, Kansas. When she was three years old, her parents, Paul and Pharel Greenamyer, along with her older sister, Margorie, all moved to Pico Rivera in the Los Angeles area, where she spent her adolescent and high school years. Beverly loved to ride the Trolly car to Long Beach with her friends Mary Ann and Wanda and make a day of basking in the sun. She also enjoyed getting all dolled up with her girlfriends in her high heels and nice dress to go to the Los Angeles Garment District and go shopping.
Art after Dark restarts with Black History Month
SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY — Art After Dark returns in 2024 with more venues than ever before. The SLO County Arts Council is excited to welcome back dozens of annually participating venues and tons of new monthly locations. The spotlight for February is Texture Salon’s “Black History Month Lounge: Celebrating Arts and History.” The lounge will include drum circles led by Tracy Morgan at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., a digital gallery of works by local Black artists, a history of hip hop between drum circles, and Black history visuals and conversation starters. This event is a collaboration between R.A.C.E. Matters and SLO County Arts Council.
Man sentenced over 80 years to life for sex crimes and burglary

Anthony “Tony” J. Maloney died peacefully on December 24th at the age of 75 following a lengthy struggle with health complications. Tony was predeceased by his mother, Virginia L. Maloney; his father, Anthony J. Maloney, Jr.; and his sister, Dede Maloney. He is survived by his loving son, Shawn A. Maloney, and step-children, Will Keiper and Shannon Giles. Tony was a loving brother to Donna Maloney and Dawn Steffens and a proud and fun grandpa to Ocean, Forest, Grace, Miley, Nolan, and Layla.
Atascadero High School Cheer takes a trip across the pond
ATASCADERO — Six seniors on the Atascadero High School (AHS) cheer team started 2024 off with a bang when they headed to England for the first time.
