Atascadero community shows up on Veterans Day to show love and support for veterans
ATASCADERO — Veterans Day festivities kicked off early on Friday, Nov. 10, in Atascadero this year with the return of Colony Market & Deli’s 2nd Annual Veterans Day celebration. That day, the deli gave away close to $1,000 worth of sandwiches to veterans and active military. Not only that, but they also raised a whopping $2,000 for K9s for Warriors, which is a nationwide non-profit that pairs trained shelter dogs with warriors with PTSD.

San Luis Obispo City resident pleads guilty to rape of minor
SAN LUIS OBISPO — The District Attorney’s office announced that San Luis Obispo City resident Juan Adriel CambrayMiranda (DOB 06-24-1981) has pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual assault involving two separate children, including Aggravated Rape of a Child Under the Age of 14, Sexual Penetration of a Child Under the Age of 14, and two counts of Committing Lewd and Lascivious Acts on a Child Under the Age of 14. The crimes occurred between April 2016 and May 2018.
Woods Humane Society announces “Senior Pets Rock” adoption special
ATASCADERO — Some “oldies” never go out of style—and that includes older pets. In honor of National Adopt a Senior Pet Month in November, Woods Humane Society is plugging all of the timeless qualities of senior pets and waiving their adoption fees with their “Senior Pets Rock” promotion. The adoption special applies to dogs and cats ages 7+ and does not include dog license fees.
These Butz Are Made for Flying
Atascadero wouldn’t be the same without John Butz and his wife, Barbie. The two have become staples in North County, and at the beginning of October, ninety-year-old John, who is a Korean War veteran, was invited on an Honor Flight with four of his family members, including all three of his sons.

Honoring 105 Years Since the Armistice, Veterans Day Celebrates Heroes Past and Present. On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month—one hundred and five years ago—World War I ended with an armistice signing between the Allies and Germany. It was 20 years later, on May 13, 1938, that November 11 was anointed as Armistice Day and proclaimed as “a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace.”

Colony Market and Deli honors veterans with free sandwiches and fundraising event
ATASCADERO — Colony Market and Deli announced its second annual Veterans Day event on Friday, Nov. 10, where the community comes together to honor active military personnel and veterans by offering free sandwiches and organizing a fundraising event to support K9s for Warriors. Last year, this event was a success, giving away over $1,000 worth of sandwiches and raising $5,000 for the noble cause.
Wild Fields Brewhouse hosts fundraiser to support ALF Food Pantry’s Holiday Meal Appeal
ATASCADERO — On Wednesday, Nov. 15, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Wild Fields Brewhouse, located at 6907 El Camino Real in Atascadero, is joining hands with the ALF Food Pantry, formerly known as Atascadero Loaves and Fishes, to sponsor a fundraiser. AUSD receives Food Service Update throughout the district
ATASCADERO — The Atascadero Unified School District (AUSD) met for their regularly scheduled trustee meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. The AUSD recognized three of their employees near the beginning of the meeting. Learning Center Teacher Nate Ballinger was recognized for the District Core Value of Excellence at San Benito Elementary School. Tradesworker and Carpenter Glen Penland was also recognized for the District Core Value of Excellence. Penland supervises the district’s bus hub in the afternoons and was honored for his fast thinking and his ability to work with the bus drivers during the recent lockdown that happened at the AHS.
Corey J Sullivan 1954-2023
Corey J Sullivan, 68, of Atascadero, California, died peacefully on October 14th, 2023, at his home in Atascadero. Corey was born in New Jersey in 1954 to Joseph and Edith Sullivan, who moved to California in 1959. Corey was only four years old. He attended Garden Grove High School, where he met his wife of 50 years, Kacey (Conroy) Sullivan. Living in Garden Grove, Corey and Kacey decided to move to Hawaii, where they lived for two years before deciding to return to the mainland. They knew the growing area of Orange County was not where they wanted to return to, so with a call to a friend, Corey, and Kacey landed in Atascadero in 1979, where he worked in construction with the promise of lathing eight homes in the town of Shandon, California. Corey and Kacey resided in Atascadero, going on 44 years, where they worked and raised their two children until his time of death.
Patricia (Pat) I Johnson 1930-2023
Pat lived a full and vibrant life from beginning to end and touched the lives of many people along the way. Pat was born and raised in the Santa Maria/Los Alamos area. There, she met Walter P Johnson, and they were married in 1951. In 1956, they purchased the family ranch from Walt’s parents and moved to Templeton. They were married for 52 years at the time of his passing in 2004.
