NEW YORK (AP) — The hurricane season roared into the U.S. with Hurricane Beryl hitting Texas in early July, surprising many business owners accustomed to seeing big storms arrive later in the summer. With the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicting an above-average storm season this year, small businesses need to be prepared. Small businesses in Texas had to not only deal with physical damage from Beryl but also a dayslong power outage. For some, the lack of electricity meant the loss of some or all of their inventory. There are steps small businesses should take to make sure they’re ready for storms and insured for storm damage.
US census takers to conduct test runs in Colorado 4 years before 2030 count
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Six places in the South and West will host practice runs for the next U.S. head count in 2030. The census helps determine political power and the distribution of federal funds. Residents of western Texas; tribal lands in Arizona; Colorado Springs, Colorado.; western North Carolina; Spartanburg, South Carolina; and Huntsville, Alabama, will be encouraged to fill out practice census questionnaires in the spring of 2026. Census Bureau officials said Monday that they hope the tests will help ensure that in 2030, they count the people who were missed in the 2020 census.

Cooler-than-average days stick around North Texas
NORTH TEXAS – Spotty showers greeted North Texans on the Tuesday morning commute. Not all of North Texas had rain, but grey skies lingered into the late morning. Expect a nice mix of sun and clouds on Tuesday with rain chances around 10% to 20%. There won't be as much activity on Tuesday as there was on Monday, with most of the afternoon showers contained to the southeastern sides of North Texas.The stationary front should continue to weaken but the upper level pattern still supports the chance of showers each day this week. Wednesday's focus shifts further southeast with the highest rain chances southeast of Anderson County. With multiple shortwaves rotating around the upper midwest low pressure, expect a cooler-than-average week ahead with rain chances around 10% to 20% most days and slightly higher for Friday.Enjoy the cooler-than-average days ahead because the summer heat returns as soon as next Monday and continues into August.
