Two Nonprofits to Build Sister Bay Home
Groundbreaking ceremony July 30; Door County Board of Realtors will help raise funds. Two local nonprofits focused on affordable housing will work together this summer in Sister Bay to build a home. The home will be financed and owned by the Door County Housing Partnership (DCHP) and built by Door County Habitat for Humanity (DCHH) volunteers.
Sturgeon Bay fender bender stretches three cars
A De Pere man complained of neck pain but did not need to go to the hospital after being in the middle of a three-car accident Thursday afternoon in Sturgeon Bay. The accident occurred at 3:10 p.m. near State Highway 42/57 and Duluth Avenue. The De Pere man was behind a Charter Communications work truck at the stop light when he was struck from behind by a Sturgeon Bay man in a pick-up truck. This started a chain reaction that pushed the De Pere man’s car into the work truck before him. According to the accident report, the pick-up truck driver told deputies on the scene that he was trying to merge on the highway at the last minute and could not avoid the accident. He was cited for inattentive driving. One traffic lane was closed for about 25 minutes to address the accident, causing a backup on STH 42/57.
DCMC Seeks Donations For Silent Auction
Door County Medical Center (DCMC) will hold its 25th-annual Mission and Values Week Silent Auction Sept. 29, 8 am through Oct. 3, 2 pm to raise money for the Ministry Fund. DCMC is requesting donations from area businesses to support the fundraiser. Donations of any kind – dinner, lodging, gift certificates, merchandise, gift baskets or other items – are accepted. DCMC employees and departments will also contribute by creating baskets to auction off.

Sidewalk Sales serves as preamble to Maritime Week
Dozens of storefronts and other vendors welcomed shoppers on Thursday as a part of Destination Sturgeon Bay's Sail Through The Avenues Sidewalk Sales. Tables from area businesses lined the curbs to offer steep discounts on some of their products while food trucks gave others an olfactory invitation to check out the scene on Sturgeon Bay's 3rd Avenue. Destination Sturgeon Bay's Alexa Soto says the event gave shoppers a chance to save and be introduced to local businesses they may have never known existed.
Open to Possibilities Brunette Accepts Wide Range of Ideas for NWTC Center in Sister Bay
Tammy Brunette gleaned dozens of ideas to further utilize the NWTC Learning and Innovation Center in Sister Bay since becoming the coordinator in January. “We are a specialty center. We are different from a campus in Sturgeon Bay or Marinette or Green Bay. We don’t offer classes such as Intro to Psychology or English or math at this center,” said Brunette. Other than that, however, she said, “We’re open to anything. when I started, my supervisor told me, Tammy, we’re here to fill in the gaps.”
