Oconee County's Aaron Brodrick has notched the 3,200-meter record for GHSA Class 3A.

The sophomore clocked a time of 9:05.58 on Friday afternoon in Albany at the GHSA track and field state championships to take gold for the Warriors. He beat the second-place runner by nine whole seconds. The previous 3A state record was 9:06.49, set by Justin Wachtel of Mary Persons in 2021.

His previous personal record for the outdoor 3,200-meter race was 9:10.31, which he set in March at the Georgia Spring Break Showdown. During indoor season he ran the distance in 9:31.08 and he placed third overall in the 2023 GHSA 3A cross country state championships.

Brodrick is also set to compete in the 1,600-meter race at the track and field state championships. Oconee County is in third place overall for the boys in 3A, according to MileSplit . The state track and field meet concludes on Saturday.

After winning the Class 3A cross country state title as a freshman, Brodrick claimed third in November behind his teammate Cooper Timberman and Wesleyan's Wood Moore. Moore place third in Friday's 3,200, 23 seconds behind Brodrick.
