Two misdemeanor charges against Georgia football freshman wide receiver Sacovie White from an early morning arrest in Athens on May 18 have been dismissed.

Athens-Clarke County Solicitor General Will Fleenor last week entered a dismissal for prior to accusation for charges of reckless driving and driving the wrong way on a one-way street against White, according to online court records.

White was scheduled for arraignment on Thursday before State Court Judge Charles Auslander.

“After a careful review of the evidence, including footage from the downtown cameras, it is clear that the State will not be able to prove Reckless Driving beyond a reasonable doubt. While the State could proceed to trial on the remaining traffic citation, the State instead chooses to dismiss that count in the interest of justice.”

Athens-Clarke County police had said White drove the wrong way on East Clayton Street at a high rate of speed at 2:07 a.m. May 18 with a passenger partially outside his 2021 Dodge Charger. Police had said the incident in a pedestrian traffic area had “posed a significant threat to public safety.”

White was a mid-year enrollee in January from Cartersville. Georgia opens the season Aug. 31 against Clemson in Atlanta.
