Athens-Clarke police detectives are investigating the alleged in-house thefts of merchandise at the FedEx facility on Olympic Drive.

Police began their investigation on Tuesday after an executive with FedEx reported they had evidence that an employee working as a truck driver was stealing packages, according to the report.

The employee was seen taking packages that were not assigned to him and placing them in his truck, according to the report. Those packages, containing mostly iPhones, were supposed to be shipped to an AT&T store that was not on the suspect’s route, according to police. The items are valued at about $4,200.

FedEx security also told police that the suspect may be connected to previous thefts of some similar merchandise that were supposed to be delivered to locations in Bethlehem and Oconee County.
