The Oconee County Library is hosting the third annual FanFest this Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Oconee County Civic Center off Hog Mountain Road.

The festival, featuring live music, guest authors, comic characters, games  and food, runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. FanFest is free to attend.

The event was designed to have something of interest for all ages, according to the library.

Among the performers are Canopy, a nonprofit group involved in aerial dance. The League of Step will provide a step dance routine and Rebecca Sunshine will perform music for kids.

Also, author Tracy Adkins, who wrote the “Ghosts of Athens”, series will attend.

Athens author Muriel Pritchett, who has six novels in publication, will attend to introduce her upcoming novel that features aliens from outer space. The book “Aliens Spurlock” launches in October, but she plans to have some advanced copies for FanFest.

For those who like to dress up like their favorite comic or movie character, there will be a cosplay contest with prizes. And look for vendors with pop culture paraphernalia.

People can attend a panel discussion on the haunting of the Eagle Tavern, a museum house in downtown Watkinsville. On the panel are a filmmaker and ghost hunters.

Joey Weiser, an Eisner Award nominated author of “Dragon Racer” and “Ghost Hog,” will attend with his graphic novels. Weiser has drawn for Sponge Bob Comics.

The Tonalli Danza Folklorica Mexicana group will present Mexican folklore dances and traditions.

Others on tap are comic artist and graphic novelist Bobby Nash of Barrow County and the Athens Korean Culture School.
