The President’s House Foundation, a non-profit formed to preserve the historic University of Georgia President’s House on Prince Avenue, announced Friday it has created possible solutions for keeping the property.

The house was listed for sale in June.

The proposals have been presented to the state’s Board of Regents and the UGA administration, as solutions to preserve the house, according to a news release.

Foundation President Lee Epting released a statement Friday that “The preservation of the President’s House and its gardens is of paramount importance to our community and the history of our university. We are delighted to see a unified commitment from all parties involved.”

There is a “preliminary plan that not only ensures the preservation of this historic property for future generations but also explores creative options with the support of the state of Georgia,” he said.

Epting said he was encouraging the Board of Regents, UGA President Jere Morehead, and state legislators to consider these options.

He also thanked Morehead and Regents Chairman Harold Reynolds for their willingness to explore the options.

Epting has not yet disclosed the options for keeping the property.

UGA reported earlier that the house was the official residents of the UGA president since 1949 when it was purchased for that purpose. Seven UGA presidents have resided in the home.

UGA decided to sell house because of the increasing maintenance cost for the 9,000-square-foot structure.
