Georgia swiped a top-100 recruit from another SEC school

Programs don't pull punches when it comes to college football recruiting.

The Georgia Bulldogs continue to churn out top-tier recruiting classes because they're not afraid of hurting anyone's feelings. Their commitment from Shamari Earls is just the latest example of that.

Earls had originally committed to play for the South Carolina Gamecocks. Instead, the 4-star cornerback announced that he had flipped his commitment, opting to play for the Bulldogs instead.

“When I committed to South Carolina, I feel like I committed a little too fast,” Earls explained to On3 . “I didn’t lay out all my options and go through every single thing. After taking some visits and looking at the options, I have decided Georgia is the best place for me.”

Widely considered a top-100 recruit in the 2025 class, Earls is a cornerback with great size at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds. 247Sports describes Earls as an "imposing perimeter corner with the ideal blend of size and speed."

Earls is currently Georgia's highest-rated defensive back in the 2025 class. However, the class also features other top-tier talent. The group is currently the fourth-ranked recruiting class in the country and the second in the SEC behind only the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Georgia's class is highlighted by the No. 1 tight end, linebacker, and EDGE in the country. All three players are top-30 overall recruits, with 5-star tight end Elyiss Williams topping the group.

Meanwhile, the Gamecocks are losing out on their highest-rated recruit for 2025. Their highest-ranked commitment is now Brian Rowe, a 3-star wide receiver. South Carolina is also stuck with the 12th-best recruiting class in the conference.

That's the nature of college football recruiting, however. And the Georgia Bulldogs aren't afraid to pull out all the stops to keep producing top-tier recruiting classes
