Kirby Smart praises five star freshman at SEC Media Days as a potential instant impact player for Georgia

It's may not seem too surprising to hear that an incoming five star freshman recruit is impressing for the Georgia Bulldogs. However, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart does not typically hand out compliments to freshman the way he did today at SEC media days when it came to one particular top tier recruit.

KJ Bolden, a five star safety from Buford, GA has apparently already been making his presence felt and fall camp hasn't even started. When Nick Saban asked Kirby Smart about some young instant impact players for the Bulldogs for 2024 he didn't hold back.

"KJ Bolden has a really good chance to help us out."

The Georgia Bulldogs have one All-American starting safety in Malaki Starks, but the other safety spot is still up for grabs as this season approaches. As Starks talked through during his podium time, he's been mentoring some of the other young safeties, and apparently the one stand out has been KJ Bolden. Kirby Smart continued in his praise for Bolden:

"Where he is right now is probably ahead of where Malaki [Starks] was [as an incoming freshman] and Malaki was able to play as a freshman. I'm excited about what KJ [Bolden] is going to do."

For those familiar with Malaki Starks, he put up one of the most incredible true freshman performances in Georgia Bulldogs history. Not only did he make one of the most impressive interceptions of the 2022 season in his first ever college game against Oregon that year, but he also led the defense in snaps, passes defended, and finished third in tackles.

There's already been significant buzz surrounding Bolden, but if he's truly that special already then 2024 Georgia is about to have the best safety tandem in the nation by midseason. We likely won't get complete clarity as to the "starter" alongside Starks for sometime, but we can expect great things fairly early out of the five star stud in KJ Bolden.
