Paul Finebaum is one of the most accomplished and composed college football analysts of the past decade, but he met his match while being grilled by ESPN analyst Chris "Mad Dog" Russo over the Georgia Bulldogs' chances to make the College Football Playoff.

Russo and Finebaum tangled over whether this coming season will be tougher or easier for the Bulldogs to make the College Football Playoff due to the new 12-team format or not in a heated ESPN segment.

"You can't sit there and tell me Paul that it's an easier run for him to win a title when he's got to win an extra playoff game," Russo said, "and the (SEC) conference is much tougher."

"Doggy, it is easier because last year, he lost on one play in the championship game after running the table and he didn't even get in the playoffs," Finebaum said about Coach Kirby Smart's Bulldogs.

"This is not a guy that's worried, I mean this guy has done everything there is to do, it's now easier to get in the playoffs so he won't have to worry about last year.

"But mostly, you're missing the whole point, the playoff benefits Kirby Smart (because) now he has a game to burn," Finebaum said.

Russo doubled down on his point that it's going to be harder for Georgia to win the national championship because they will have to win extra games in the new 12-team playoff format.

He questioned Finebaum's point of view while taking him to task in a segment aired on ESPN Tuesday, sticking to his guns in stating that Georgia's path will be much harder now that Smart must win extra games to win his third college football title.
