(Guthrie Co) A Georgia man was arrested after a high-speed chase in Guthrie County on Tuesday. According to the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, 58-year-old Paul William Bolin of Athens, Georgia, was driving a 2020 Toyota Camry when he passed a fully marked squad car at an excessive speed. Radar clocked his speed at 83 mph. When the deputy activated the emergency lights and siren, Bolin accelerated further, reaching speeds of 97 mph.

Bolin ignored a stop sign at Highway 71 to the north but eventually came to a halt with assistance from other law enforcement officers at Highway 141 near Falcon Avenue. During the stop, authorities discovered a .22 caliber pistol in the center console of Bolin’s car. A background check revealed that while Bolin, who identified himself as “God,” had no outstanding warrants and was not a felon, he was still prohibited from possessing a firearm.

The chase started at 4:57 p.m. and ended just eight minutes later at 5:05 p.m. Bolin faces charges including Speeding, Dominion/Control of Firearm/Offensive Weapon by a Felon, Failure to Obey Traffic Control Device, and Eluding.
