Georgia quarterback Carson Beck drives a really fast car, but that doesn't he's going full speed.

During SEC Media Days this week, Beck was asked about the speed of his Lamborghini and he didn't hesitate to throw [some of] his teammates under the bus with his response.

“Obviously, my car is fast, 100 percent, but I don’t drive like an idiot,” Beck said.

It couldn't have been a more perfect response amid the recent arrests of two Georgia football players for reckless driving.

Senior linebacker Smael Mondon was arrested last Wednesday night by Athens-Clarke County police for racing and reckless driving. Meanwhile, redshirt freshman offensive lineman Bo Hughley was arrested the night before by University of Georgia police and charged with failure to maintain proper lane and reckless driving.

Transfer running back Trevor Etienne was also arrested for a similar incident back in March.

The Bulldogs have now had 24 players arrested or cited for speeding, racing, or reckless driving since the fatal crash that took offensive lineman Devin Willock and recruiting staffer Chandley LeCroy in January of 2023.

Kirby Smart Addresses Recent Georgia Players Arrests

Head coach Kirby Smart addressed the arrests at SEC Media Days, but he did not go into detail on how the university or football program specifically plans to discipline them.

“I think the number one thing is disappointed," Smart said. "Any time you have a situation like that, you want your kids — your players — to make better decisions,” said Smart. “I always say you can’t be outcome-related, and I’m very disappointed with the outcomes, but I am very pleased with our process we’ve put in in terms of education, driver safety, requiring defensive driving, education, talking about it, having leaders stand up and talking about it, suspending players, dismissing players.

“I don’t know to this point any coach in college football who has suspended a player for a driving citation. We have. We have, and we’ve also dismissed players based on driving citations. Nobody has done that. Hopefully, they get the idea and the information, but we have a really good locker room. I love the players we have.”

Smart did mention that players will be fined in NIL payments by the Classic City Collective and suspensions could take place, but repeatedly emphasized education is the best route to take.

"I don't necessarily think it's right to go down to the town square and publicly shame kids," Smart said. "They go through a lot. And there's a lot of remorse from these young men ... our job is to educate."
