Georgia Bulldogs Playmaker Named Heisman Trophy Sleeper

The Georgia Bulldogs are widely expected to be one of the best teams in the country heading into the 2024 season, which comes as no surprise.

After all, Georgia won back-to-back national championships in 2021 and 2022 and has won a bowl game in nine of the last 10 years.

However, who new SEC Now host and former University of Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy chose from the Bulldogs as his sleeper Heisman Trophy candidate for 2024 may surprise you.

“I would go with someone who can impact the game in a bunch of different ways,” McElroy said, via Christian Kirby of Sports Illustrated . “I would go with Dillon Bell from Georgia.”

McElroy wasn’t lying when he said Bell affects the game in a variety of ways.

Last season, Bell rushed for, threw for and caught touchdowns, putting him among a select few players in Georgia history to achieve that feat.

Nominally known as a wide receiver, Bell hauled in 29 receptions for 355 yards and a couple of scores while rushing for 157 yards and a pair of touchdowns in 2023. He also threw an 18-yard touchdown pass.

Bell arrived at Athens in 2022 and had a very minimal role during his freshman season, logging 20 catches for 180 yards while reaching the end zone three times.

With fellow receivers Ladd McConkey and Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint as well as tight end Brock Bowers all making the jump to the NFL this past spring, Bell’s playing time is expected to grow in 2024.

Bell will likely be sharing the field with returning senior Dominic Lovett and University of Miami transfer Colbie Young when the regular season begins at the end of next month.

The Bulldogs will began their 2024 campaign with a big matchup against Clemson right off the bat.
