Bad news for the Georgia football team ahead of its season opener against Clemson.

A wide receiver who has been slated to play a big role in the Bulldogs’ passing attack was arrested.

Rara Thomas was arrested on family violence charges, according to multiple reports. The arrest took place early Friday morning. The senior was charged with cruelty to children-family violence (a second-degree felony) and two misdemeanor counts of battery-family violence, per ESPN’s Mark Schlabach .

Because Thomas was charged with a felony, he is now facing an immediate suspension by Georgia under its university athletic association guidelines. He transferred from Mississippi State to Georgia last year, and this marks the second time he has been arrested on family violence charges since then.

The former four-star prospect from Alabama missed some time due to injury last season, when he had 23 receptions for 383 yards and a touchdown as a junior.

The highly anticipated season opener between Clemson and Georgia is set for Saturday, Aug. 31 in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium (12 p.m., ABC).
