Former Georgia star David Pollack reveals which teams could keep Bulldogs away from SEC title

The Georgia Bulldogs are the heavy favorite to win the SEC championship this college football season.

However, former Georgia star linebacker David Pollack says not so fast.

Pollack believes the four top teams that the Bulldogs are set to face this season could be what keeps them from making it to the SEC title, because they play them on the road.

"It’s easy to look at Georgia and say they’re the best team in the country," Pollack said. "But man, their best four opponents they play are away from home, and that’s four top 15 teams," Pollack said during an appearance on ‘Outkick Hot Mic.’ “You’ve got to go to Texas, you’ve got to go to Alabama, you’ve got to go to Ole Miss, you’ve got to play Clemson at a neutral site."

Pollack goes on to say that at least two or three of those four teams are without a doubt making it to the playoffs.

He doesn't cancel out Georgia altogether but rather mentions a scenario where the Bulldogs could make it to the playoffs too, with a special thanks to the new 12-team College Football Playoffs format.

But that doesn't mean the SEC title game is an absolute lock for Georgia.

"Georgia could be the best team… I don’t know how the format is going to work... But to me, there are four teams, and at least two of them are getting in. I would argue maybe a third could get in," Pollack said. "I think Georgia’s schedule is going to be so hard for them to maybe get to the SEC championship game. But do they sit at home and watch the SEC championship game and then go to the playoffs? I think that could really happen this year for them."

Pollack did not mention Kentucky, but that's yet another potential tough road match for the Bulldogs in 2024.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart isn't shying away from the fact his team is up for a tall task this season with the schedule they were given, but he's ready to face the challenge head-on.

"Initially I was wondering how I got that draw, but we're not one to complain,” Smart said of the schedule during SEC Media Days . “We're one to be excited. I think when you step into the shoes of a University of Georgia football player, you accept that challenge is going to be there.”
