Bad news for the Georgia football team ahead of its season opener against Clemson, as the Bulldogs will be without a wide receiver who was slated to play a big role in their passing attack.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart announced Thursday that wide receiver Rara Thomas has been dismissed from program.

Thomas was arrested last Friday on family violence charges. The senior was charged with cruelty to children-family violence (a second-degree felony) and two misdemeanor counts of battery-family violence.

Thomas transferred from Mississippi State to Georgia last year, and this marked the second time he was arrested on family violence charges since then.

The former four-star prospect from Alabama missed some time due to injury last season, when he had 23 receptions for 383 yards and a touchdown as a junior.

The highly anticipated season opener between Clemson and Georgia is set for Saturday, Aug. 31 in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium (12 p.m., ABC).
