ALBANY — When you bounce back, oftentimes it happens in a big way.

Snapping a three-game losing skid over the previous week, Trimble baseball got back into form in emphatic fashion with a 10-2 beatdown over Alexander on the road on Monday afternoon. The Tomcats (7-4, 1-3 Tri-Valley Conference-Hocking) would score in all but one inning, collecting 11 hits as a team in the win.

Paul Sharp would finish with a 3-4 day at the plate while Chayse Henry and Trent Pettit each added three RBIs on one hit for Trimble. Brandon Burdette would record two hits and score a pair of runs while Bennie Warren added a pair of RBIs on two hits as well. Bradley Cahoe and Owen Sikorski would also grab a hit for the Tomcats.

On the mound, it was a team-effort with three different players throwing a pitch for Trimble. Cole Wright would get the nod to start, lasting just 2.1 innings while allowing a pair of runs on three hits, striking out and walking a pair. Bradley Cahoe would get the winning decision after 3.2 innings of impressive relief work, allowing no runs and two hits while striking out three.

Caleb Cahoe would then pitch the final inning, striking out two in a scoreless frame.

Mason Morris would have one hit and drive in the Spartans’ (4-5, 3-2 TVC-Ohio) lone two runs on the afternoon. Trent Schaad, Camron Oberholzer, Stanley Viny and Jordan Schulz would all have one hit for Alexander.

On the mound for the Spartans, Jackson Wandling would start and receive the losing decision after throwing three innings, allowing four runs on five hits while walking and striking out three. Schaad and Oberholzer would then split relief duties the rest of the way.

The signs were there early that it might not be a good night for the Spartans. Loading up the bases with no outs in the top of the first, Trimble was able to strike first with a two-run single from Warren. Just two batters later, Pettit would single in Sikorski for the third run of the inning as the Tomcats immediately jumped out in control.

Oddly enough, Alexander would do just the same to start the bottom of the frame by loading the bases with no outs. Morris would later rip a two-out hit to center field to plate what would end up becoming Alexander’s only two runs.

Trimble would begin to extend the lead in the following frame with a ground out off the bat of Henry bringing in Burdette. The Tomcats would then strike in the fourth after a pair of walks put runners on base, allowing Sikorski to single in a run.

After the first inning, Trimble would retire nine of the next 11 batters faced to help keep the Spartans at bay.

Trimble would begin to threaten again in the fifth with a pair of hits and a walk loading the bases with no outs. While not getting a hit after, a pair of ground outs off the bats of Pettit and Will Sharp would make it a 7-2 game midway through the fifth.

The Tomcats would conclude scoring in the following frame with an RBI double from Henry and another RBI groundout off the bat of Pettit to make it an eight-run game.

Trimble would then send the Spartans down in order in each of the final two frames, completing a much-needed bounce back win for the Tomcats.
