GLOUSTER — With fall sports now fully in swing in Athens County, girl’s golf is starting off the festivities for the 2024-25 school year with league play already underway.

Kicking off Tri-Valley Conference competition at Forest Hills Golf Course in Glouster, Athens picked up its first team victory of the season with a six-stroke victory over Vinton County. Finishing with a team total of 214, the Bulldogs beat the rest of the field by at least 30 strokes aside from the Vikings.

The top of the leaderboard was littered in green and gold as Athens placed three golfers in the top ten individuals scores as well to help secure the victory. Ellie Beck-Aden medaled in the match with a low-score of 42 while Fern Sigman wasn’t too far behind with a third-place finish of 47. Vera Kiryukhin also finished in the top-10 individual results with a 57 while Maelle Newton (68), Mia Szewczyk (72) and Addison Grueser (74) also competed.

Federal Hocking placed last in team results but only because of lack of participants, not the scores. Coming off a fantastic season a year prior, Addison Jackson showed out once again to start off the 2024 season, scoring a second-place 43 on the day. Maggie Kneier (62) and Cora Kneier (77) also competed for the Lancers.

Alexander placed fifth out of eight schools as a team but had an incredibly consistent day with all six participants scoring in the 60s for the Spartans. Kaitlynn Green and Lacey Doering each led the way with identical scores of 61 while Adison Appleman finished with a score of 62. Both Abby Mansfield and Greta Meyer scored a 63 while Olivia Burton finished with a 68.

Nelsonville-York finished seventh overall. Mya Schultz led the charge with a 66 on the scorecard while Madi Pidcock (67), Kylie Bishop (69), Megan Booth (70) and Cat Dixon (76) also competed.

The schools next hit the links for TVC competition on Aug. 12 with Federal Hocking set to host.
