Belpre — Everybody has to deal with occasional adversity when going into an athletic competition. Golf is no different.

In the second Tri-Valley Conference match of the season for girl’s golf, a scheduling conflict with Oxbow Golf Course forced competitors to play just five holes in the abbreviated match. Either way, the student-athletes took the challenge and still walked away with impressive scores.

Athens grabbed a second straight victory with a team score of 123, five strokes ahead of second place Federal Hocking. The Lancers’ Addison Jackson shined in solo competition, scoring par on all five holes to grab the solo medal with a score of 20.

For the Bulldogs, Ellie Beck-Aden earned second place individually with a score of 23. Vera Kiryukhin also shot sub-30 with a 29 while Fern Sigman (32), Maelle Newton (39), Mia Szewczyk (40) and Marley Christman (40) also competed.

The second place Lancers were led by Jackson’s 20 but also had Elizabeth Boyd (33), Maggie Kneier (35) and Cora Kneier (40) compete.

Alexander placed fifth as a team with Kaitlynn Green’s 32 leading the charge. Raegan Wandling and Abby Mansfield both shot 34 while Adison Appleman and Lacey Doering each scored 36. Reegan Jordan also shot a 40 for the Spartans.
