    Ohio soccer dominates against Oakland, 7-0

    The Ohio soccer team (5-1-1) showcased a stellar performance during Senior Day with a commanding 7-0 victory at home against the Oakland Grizzlies (1-6-2) on Sunday.

    Prior to the match, Quintin Tostevin (Toronto, Ontario, Canada), Kali Stock (Loveland, Ohio) and Kennedy Rieple (Kirtland, Ohio) were honored for their time in the Green and White.

    The Bobcats dominated on the offensive front, outshooting the Grizzlies 31-7, with 13 shots on goal, compared to Oakland’s three. Ohio’s goalkeeper, junior Celeste Sloma (Columbus, Ohio), made three saves, achieving her fourth shutout of the season, while the team earned five corner kicks throughout the match.

    Individually, graduate student Aubrey Rea (Akron, Ohio) led the Bobcats with two shots on goal, netting two goals with assists from junior Rayann Pruss (Perrysburg, Ohio) and sophomore Jaimason Brooker (Powell, Ohio).

    Freshman Sania Dearing (Pickerington, Ohio) also made an impact, registering two shots on goal, both of which resulted in her first goals as a Bobcat. Brooker tallied a shot on goal and contributed another assist, this time for junior Hailey Jeng (Centerville, Ohio), who had one shot on goal and scored once. Sophomore Sydney Crowe (Wilmington, Ohio) recorded two shots on goal, and one goal with an assist from freshman Iro Faskinou (Athens, Greece).

    Junior Eve Berish (Hudson, Ohio) took two shots on goal, and recorded one goal for the Bobcats and junior Scout Murray (Chicago, Ill.) added one shot on goal for Ohio.

    The Bobcats set the tone early against the Grizzlies, maintaining strong possession and establishing a competitive advantage. They struck first in the 19th minute when Rea scored with an assist from Pruss in the top center of the goal. Just one minute later, in the 20th minute, Jeng added another goal, assisted by Brooker, extending the lead to 2-0.

    Ohio continued to build on their momentum in the 37th minute with a goal from Crowe in the bottom right corner of the net, assisted by Faskinou. The Bobcats went into halftime with a solid 3-0 lead.

    At the break, Ohio had outshot Oakland 13-3, registering eight shots on goal.

    The second half began with the Bobcats facing a determined Grizzlies squad, but Ohio’s dominance prevailed. In the 58th minute, Rea scored her second goal of the match with an assist from Brooker, marking Brooker’s second assist of the game, resulting in a 4-0 lead for the Bobcats. In the 75th minute, Dearing scored her first career goal as a Bobcat, placing the ball in the bottom left corner of the net, pushing Ohio to a 5-0 advantage.

    Moments later, Dearing struck again, netting her second goal of the match in the 75th minute putting the Bobcats up, 6-0. In the 88th minute, Berish recorded the final goal for Ohio securing the 7-0 win for the Bobcats.

    Ohio will return to action on Thursday, September 19, at 4 p.m. at Chessa Field for the Mid-American Conference opener against Western Michigan. The match can be seen on ESPN+.
