ATHENS — Having held a number of successful senior expo/health fairs in Hocking, Perry and Fairfield counties, APG Ohio is taking the concept into Athens County as well. On Friday, Sept. 20, the first annual Athens County Senior Expo and Health Fair will take place from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. at the Athens Messenger Event Center, 9300 Johnson Road, The Plains.

Earlier expos have been produced by the APG newspapers the Logan Daily News and the Perry County Tribune, while the new event is being put on by their sister publication The Athens Messenger.

Like the events in Hocking, Perry and Fairfield, the Athens expo will feature free admission and parking. It will gather into one spot a large number of vendors and organizations that offer services for seniors and caregivers ranging from home health care to estate planning, and will sweeten the deal with plenty of door prizes, giveaways and refreshments.

“We’ve gotten such a strong positive response to the expos we’ve held in Logan, New Lexington and Lancaster, that we figured it just made sense to offer one in Athens as well,” said Brenda Carney, general manager/ad director for the Logan Daily News and Perry County Tribune. “I have to think any senior, or anyone who cares for a senior, will be able to take away something of value from attending this event.”

“Besides providing reliable local news coverage, our papers want to be active, contributing members of the communities we serve,” added Paul Reynolds, regional publisher for APG Ohio. “These events are a way we can leverage our resources to improve the quality of life for our readers and their families, by providing information and access to resources they may not realize are out there.”

The Athens County Senior Expo & Health Fair is presented by National Telehealth Solutions. Sponsors include OUCU Financial, WLGN radio, Humana, Hopewell Health Centers, Buckeye Hills Regional Council, Fairhope Hospice & Palliative Care, COAD, Hickory Creek of Athens, Athens Eye Care, Trilogy Health Services LLC, Planet Fitness, Shrivers Hospice, Fun Bus Adventures, GoodCare by CPCI, ClearSky Health, Genesis Black Lung, Adena Health System, Aetna, Hocking-Athens-Perry Community Action, Ohio Pink Ribbon Fund, Grotsky Senior Insurance, Overbrook Rehabilitation Center, Athens City-County Health Department, Highland Oaks Health Center, The Laurels of Athens, OhioHealth and Buckeye Hospice and Palliative Care.
