NELSONVILLE — It’s always better to go home and regroup after getting shaken up. For the first time since the start of September, Nelsonville-York gets back to Dave Boston Field looking to right the ship in this week’s Messenger Game of the Week.

Following a two-game road trip that saw the Buckeyes (3-2, 1-0 Tri-Valley Conference-Ohio) most recently drop a heartbreaking 12-6 battle to Waterford in which the team was leading going into the fourth quarter, Nelsonville-York returns home to continue TVC-Ohio play.

Still sitting in good position early into the conference schedule after a 48-7 drubbing of River Valley a couple weeks ago, the Buckeyes will suit up against Meigs this Friday night. Breaking a three-game losing streak last week, the Marauders are coming off an almost identical 48-6 beatdown of the Raiders.

First-and-foremost, Nelsonville-York will look to reestablish its explosive offense after a cold night the week before. In the two prior wins against Liberty Union and River Valley, the team had put up 33 and 48 points respectively.

It all starts with the returning Landen Inman, who is still working himself into form after missing the first three games of the season. Through two contests, the multi-use athlete has carried the ball 16 times for 116 yards and a pair of scores. He also has eight catches for 97 yards in that span while also tossing a 65-yard completion as well.

In the talented backfield with him is Austin Gautier and Dakota Cunningham. Gautier has carried the ball a team-high 61 times for 299 yards and five touchdowns while Cunningham has 164 yards rushing and a score on 36 carries. Both juniors, the running back duo has impressed in their first serious taste at varsity action.

Throwing just under seven passes a contest, Cameron Sullivan looks to continue his progression in his first season under center. The sophomore has thrown for 428 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions on the year.

On the outside, Sullivan will look to Inman, Alec Thompson and Logan Meek to provide yards through the air. Thompson has a team-high nine catches on the year for 188 yards and two scores while Meek has 70 yards receiving on the year.

Each of the top six tacklers on the Buckeyes’ roster are all either juniors or sophomores. Cunningham leads the team in tackles with 48 while Caeleb Layton has 42 in just four games played.

Still undefeated in conference play, Nelsonville-York has nothing to hand their heads over after the loss last week. While playoff seedings may eventually be adjusted with that loss, the Buckeyes still have everything they hope to accomplish this season sitting right there in front of them.

The team hopes to bounce back by mauling the Marauders on home turf.
