While the golf season is reasonably winding down with the temperatures starting to significantly drop, there’s still some time left in the season to get some swings in. Carrying on after absolutely stellar season’s, a pair of Athens County golfers recently punched their tickets to the state tournament.

Federal Hocking’s Addison Jackson and Athens’ Ellie Beck-Aden, who had consistently been battling each other for the low-score in Tri-Valley Conference matches this season, both did enough at their respective district tournament to earn the honor.

    Division I

Playing on Wednesday at EagleSticks Golf Club in Zanesville, Beck-Aden made history for the Bulldogs. Shooting a 77, one behind Dover’s Mya Downing, the junior placed second overall individually to qualify for the state tournament.

It’s the first time in school history that Athens had a girl’s golfer qualify for the Division I state tournament. Beck-Aden will next compete on Oct. 14-15 at the NCR Country Club in Kettering with the opportunity to etch even more history for the school.

    Division II

Competing on Oct. 1, Federal Hocking’s Jackson made sure that her senior season wasn’t ending quite yet. The student-athlete qualified for the state tournament by finishing third individually in the district tournament at Crown Hill Golf Club in Williamsport, shooting an 87. It was 10 strokes behind the first place finisher.

Waiting nearly two weeks to play from her last competition, Jackson next hits the course on Oct. 13-14 at Firestone Country Club in Akron for the state tournament as she attempts to make even more history for the Lancers.
