    Early voting boasts 23% in Athens County

    Early voting for the state of Ohio began on October 8, and in the time since, Athens County has a 23% ballot return rate, according to the Ohio Secretary of State website.

    In total, 6,153 early ballots were requested and 3,021 ballots have been returned thus far. Of these, 2,071 ballots can be attributed to early in-person voting and 950 early mail-in ballots have been received of 4,082 total requested mail-in ballots.

    As voters look toward election day itself, the following deadlines are upcoming:

    October 29: Local board of elections must receive absentee ballot applications by 8:30p.m.

    November 4: All mailed absentee ballots must be postmarked no later than this date

    November 5: General election, polls open from 6:30a.m. - 7:30p.m.
