    Water line installation expected to be completed on May 6

    According to a press release issued April 24 by the City of Athens, Shelly & Sands crews will continue working on the West Union Street Infrastructure Improvement Project as follows for the next two weeks:

    Work will continue on the installation of the 12-inch water line and is expected to be completed by Monday.Service line installations will continue until all customers are connected to the new water line. From Jefferson Avenue to Shafer Street, the water line will be filled, pressure tested, and chlorinated by April 26.Excavation work from the Athens County Fairgrounds to the OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital entrance will begin. Afterward, they will remove pavement from Davison Court (located at West State Park) to West Union Street. Work will continue installing new storm structures and underground drains from the bridge to Herrold Avenue.

    Access to all business locations remain open with stone drives placed for access.

    Please use caution in the work zone. One-way traffic continues on West Union Street from the bridge near the State Route 682 intersection to the hospital entrance. Two-way traffic is being conducted from the hospital entrance to Shafer Street. One-way traffic on Herrold Avenue.

    The City of Athens apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.
