The Southeast Ohio History Center will host Rich Dahn, the historian for the Moonville Rail Trail at noon Thursday as he shares his 40+ year interest in the Moonville area and historic Tunnel in Vinton County.

Is the Moonville Tunnel haunted? What brought early pioneers to the area? How did Moonville get its name?

Dahn wrote the application for the tunnel’s successful listing on the National Register of Historic Places and continues to do research on the lives and tragedies of many of the residents of the 1850-1925 time period between the towns of Zaleski and Mineral on the stretch of the Marietta-Cincinnati Railroad designated as the “Rail of Sorrow.”

Now who doesn’t want to hear more about this intriguing place in Southeast Ohio?

The Southeast Ohio History Center is located at 24 W. State St., Athens and offers limited parking in the rear off North Congress Street. The Lyceum Luncheon Series is generally scheduled for the third Thursdays of the month.
