ATHENS, Pa. ( WETM ) — Bradford County seniors can learn about local programs and services during an event on Friday.

Representative Tina Pickett is hosting the 23rd Bradford County Senior Expo from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 26. Hundreds of Bradford County residents aged 55 and older and their family members are expected to visit Lynch-Bustin Elementary School, which is located at 253 Pennsylvania Ave. in Athens, for this event.

“Our expo provides a unique opportunity to learn about the wide variety of programs and services available to older residents in our area,” said Pickett.

Dozens of organizations with information about healthcare, insurance, nutrition, exercise, veterans benefits, government services, financial planning, fraud protection, and more will be at the expo. Additionally, Pickett will hold a town hall meeting in the cafeteria at 11:30 a.m.

Attendees can securely get rid of old prescriptions and documents at this event. The Bradford County Sheriff’s Office is providing a drop box for people to get rid of expired medications, and a free paper shredding truck from North Central Sight Services will be in the parking lot. Free shredding will be available from 10 a.m. until noon, is only open to residents (not businesses), and each person is limited to two boxes of documents.

“We are pleased to be able to once again provide the free shredding service at our expo,” said Pickett. “Identity theft is a fast-growing crime, and this will give older residents a safe and secure way to destroy documents containing their personal and financial information.”

Those who plan to attend the expo should take the second Athens business exit off of U.S. Route 220 to Pine Street to get to the event. A shuttle service will be on-site to take people from the parking lot to the school’s front door starting at 9:30 a.m. The school building is air-conditioned, so attendees don’t have to worry about the expo being too hot.

Any questions about the expo should be directed to Picket’s district office in Sayre by calling 570-888-9011. Her offices in Sayre and Towanda will be closed on Thursday and Friday in preparation for the event, and her Tunkhannock office will be closed on Friday.
