Allen) At the Governor’s weekly press conference, state leaders shared that a decision on a FEMA disaster declaration is expected by the end of this week. If Vermont qualifies for individual FEMA assistance, impacted Vermonters will need to submit their information to FEMA, in addition to 211. Vermonters are encouraged to prepare their documentation in advance. Resources are available at the State Floor Recovery Centers to assist with this and we will communicate the availability of assistance if, and when, FEMA makes a decision.

Vermont faces lawsuit over climate change law
(The Center Square) — A regional environmental group plans to sue Vermont over a climate change law, alleging that the state isn't complying with mandates to reduce its carbon footprint. The Conservation Law Foundation said it had sent a notice of alleged violation to Vermont’s secretary of the Agency of Natural Resources for "failing to meet the legal responsibilities" set by the Global Warming Solutions Act to reduce "climate-damaging" emissions. A Vermont man is accused of driving under the influence. Vermont State Police saw a vehicle on Route 7 in the town of Shaftsbury in Bennington County traveling 72 mph. Schifilliti Park will undergo construction of a newly paved walking and biking path
Schifilliti Park will be under construction for the next month as a new pathway is being constructed. Construction began July 22 on the Schifilliti Park Pathway, a paved walk and bike pathway that will run behind C.P. Smith Elementary School, connecting James Avenue to Gosse Court through the park. Construction is expected to continue through mid-August, according to the Burlington Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department, reaching substantial completion before the start of the school year Aug. 26. People should expect a brief one-day closure of the park access from James Avenue when new pavement is installed in August. An update will be posted to the city's website and social medias when the schedule is confirmed.The area will remain open during construction. Burlington Parks asks visitors to use caution when traveling through the parts of Schifilliti Park undergoing work and follow all instructions from on-site personnel.

Multiple charges related to drug trafficking and burglary
At about 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2024, the Vermont State Police was notified of a burglary at a residence on Pine Street in the town of North Troy. A trooper met with the complainants at the residence and learned a safe was removed and broken into, and a person was cashing stolen checks at a local bank. It was reported more than $30,000 in cash currency was stolen from within the safe. During subsequent investigation, Darin Farley was identified as a suspect, later located, and taken into custody for the felony offense of False Pretenses or Tokens. Farley, 36, of North Troy was transported to the Derby Barracks for processing.
