ATHENS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Concord University on Monday announced a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the installation of new bleachers in the Carter Center on the university’s campus.

The ceremony will be open to members of the public and will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, beginning at 11:00am. Light refreshments will be available in the Carter Center lobby following the ceremony.

The bleacher installation follows a generous donation to the university from HES Custodial Services for which a dedicated sign will be presented.

The installation of the bleachers took place over the course of roughly a month, beginning on February 29, 2024, and coming to a conclusion on April 3, 2024.

“The need for this was great, as the old bleachers were unsafe and unattractive, and had to be pulled out manually,” said Concord University of the project. “This improvement has modernized the facility and greatly improved the playing atmosphere. In addition, the upgrade makes a huge impact on recruiting for Concord’s athletic programs.”

The newly installed bleachers feature simple operation through automatic motorized functionality, and mark yet another milestone in the 17-year partnership between Concord University and HES Facilities Management.

“We are thrilled to contribute to Concord University’s continued growth and success,” said Regional Vice President at HES, Russell Leboff. “Our longstanding partnership with Concord University has been very rewarding, and we are proud to support the mission of providing an outstanding educational environment.”

Rich Strayer with Maffei Strayer Furnishings facilitated the job, while the involvement of Concord University’s Physical Plant crew in the process saved the university a substantial cost for installation.

Director of Facilities, Steve Miller praised the efforts of those who contributed to the installation remarking, “The Physical Plant team never ceases to amaze me with their can-do spirit and willingness to contribute each and every time a need arises.”
