F45, the Mark Wahlberg-backed functional fitness franchisor, has created a 45-day fitness challenge to raise cancer awareness and promote healthy living

F45 Training, the group fitness franchise backed by actor Mark Wahlberg, is teaming with the American Cancer Society (ACS) to raise awareness and kick off The F45 Challenge, a 45-day initiative that supports the work of the ACS.

Members of F45 nationwide can register and join the annual F45 Challenge beginning October 7. From October 21 to 27, F45 is advancing its efforts through a partnership with Battle Cancer, an organization that raises funds and awareness for cancer charities through fitness experiences.

    The F45 Challenge

F45 provides a run-down of what to expect during the F45 Challenge on its site. The first two weeks of the challenge include setting goals and establishing fitness baselines, with the accompanying F45 Training app supporting weekly meal plans and daily habits. During weeks three and four, F45’ers will work together as a global team to hit a combined 20-million-point target. The target represents the 20 million individuals globally who are diagnosed with cancer each year. Each day, a special Battle Cancer finisher workout will be featured in F45 studio classes, where reps can be counted and recorded in the F45 Training app to contribute to the global total.

Weeks five and six include developing mental resilience and incorporating recovery into routines. In the final week, F45 members will be motivated to finish strong, improve their athletic assessments and complete final inBody scans.

    F45 Fundraises for a Cause

Fundraising will also occur during the month, where every dollar raised equals one point toward the target. F45 members are encouraged to register for the challenge, all members are welcome to participate in the fundraising and Battle Cancer finishers from October 21 to 27. Participation is free of charge, and no minimum donation is required.

F45 members can purchase an exclusive F45 Challenge x Battle Cancer t-shirt. A portion of the proceeds will go towards the American Cancer Society and Battle Cancer.

“Cancer unfortunately affects everyone in some way – whether it’s being diagnosed yourself or the diagnosis of a loved one,” F45 CEO Tom Dowd says. “Thankfully, through the important work of organizations such as the American Cancer Society and Battle Cancer, we are learning that there are steps we can take to help prevent it – starting with physical fitness.”

Staying Active is Key, Says ACS

Approximately 18% of all cancers and roughly 16% of cancer-related deaths in the U.S. are attributed to several preventable factors, such as physical inactivity, excess body weight, alcohol consumption and poor nutrition, according to the ACS. The cancer-fighting organization recommends adults participate in 150-300 minutes of moderate-intensity or 75-150 minutes of vigorous-intensity activity weekly.

“We know that staying active, eating well, and maintaining a healthy weight can make a real difference in reducing cancer risk,” says Shana Neuberger, ACS’s senior executive director of Southern California. “That’s why partnerships like this with F45 Training are so powerful. Together, we can inspire people to prioritize their health while also raising awareness and support for those affected by cancer. This kind of collaboration helps us reach more people and make a bigger impact in the fight to end cancer.”
