Rumor: Timberwolves to play Mavericks on Christmas Day

The Minnesota Timberwolves are rumored to be playing the Dallas Mavericks on Christmas Day next season.

That's according to NBA insider Marc Stein , who reported the supposed game to be played on Sunday, crediting "The Ant Effect."

"I'm already hearing that Minnesota — thanks to The Ant Effect — is in strong consideration to play in the second game on Opening Night on TNT on Oct. 22 and feature on the five-game Christmas Day slate as well," Stein wrote in his latest newsletter.

"Word is one of the proposed Christmas options is Timberwolves at Mavericks: Anthony Edwards vs. Luka Dončić. Dallas played at Phoenix on Christmas last season."

Stein had already reported the Wolves would possibly get an opening night and Christmas Day game but didn't allude to who the opponent would be at the time.

Minnesota lost the Western Conference Finals in five games to Dallas who ended up losing the NBA Finals to the Boston Celtics in five games.

The Wolves have only played in two Christmas Day games in the franchise's history, happening in 2016 and 2017.
