Giants Insider Praises 'Absurd' Nabers After Joint Practice

The hype for New York Giants receiver Malik Nabers is teetering on unbelievable.

A blue-chip prospect who would’ve been the easy top receiver in most draft classes, Nabers’ sixth-overall pick draft capital and elite collegiate production are enough to be excited for his Year 1 contribution.

But with each passing day at training camp, he continues to prove that he might not be just the best receiver in a bad receiving corps. Nabers might be downright special.

Giants insider Connor Hughes spoke after practice on Tuesday about what he’s seen from Nabers and how excited fans should be for his rookie campaign.

“Malik Nabers is absurd,” Hughes said. “I covered the NFL since 2014 and among the players I’ve covered I’ve never once seen a rookie make such a seamless transition. That includes Odell Beckham Jr., who missed the majority of his first summer with a hamstring injury. Guys like Justin Jefferson, Beckham, and Mike Evans are anomalies.

“The college-NFL transition for wideouts isn’t supposed to be easy. Yet here’s Nabers, open seemingly every play and catching everything thrown his way.”

Between the fights with the Detroit Lions during this week’s joint practices, Nabers was just that – dominant. He caught nearly every one of his 18 targets and made an impact both underneath and downfield.

Nabers was expected to be the focal point of the offense once his name was called. Before he takes his first regular season snap, the expectations have risen significantly, all by his own doing.

“It’s one thing for Nabers to do this to the Giants’ secondary, which figures to endure growing pains throughout the season,” Hughes said. “The fact he dominated the Lions just the same should lead to immense hype entering 2024.”
