When the Paris Olympics kicked off a couple of weeks ago, it was LeBron James, the NBA's all-time leading scorer, and tennis sensation Coco Gauff who served as the flagbearers for the United States.

Now that the Summer Games are about to end, Team USA has decided to hand this honor to swimmer Katie Ledecky, who bagged no less than four Olympic medals in Paris. The 27-year-old took the Games by absolute storm, and the United States could not have picked a better flagbearer for the closing ceremonies on Sunday.

Ledecky, who will be joined by rowing gold medalist Nick Mead for this honor, took to X, formerly Twitter, to share her heartfelt reaction to this major development.

"Honored to lead @TeamUSA at the Closing Ceremony with Nick! Proud of my teammates here in Paris, and excited to celebrate with all of them on Sunday 🇺🇸," she wrote.

Below is a clip posted by Team USA wherein United States swimming icon Robert Finke breaks the news to Ledecky. She could not hold back the tears.

It was quite a run for Ledecky in the 2024 Olympics. She won bronze in the 400-m freestyle and silver in the 4x200-m freestyle. Her two gold medals came in the 800-m freestyle and the 1,500-m freestyle, where she also set an Olympic record time of 15:30.02.

It's only fitting that it's Ledecky who holds up the Red, White, and Blue when the Games come to its epic conclusion.
