Tyrese Haliburton Sets Perfect Example of Sportsmanship

    By Lance Roberson,

Although Haliburton seldom plays for Team USA, the Indiana Pacers All-Star remains a professional, supportive teammate on the bench. Whether wishing a teammate happy birthday, attending off-court Olympic functions, or enjoying life from the sidelines, Haliburton has displayed what it means to be a great team player.

During Team USA's dominant 122-87 victory over Brazil, Haliburton's admiral disposition paid dividends. Haliburton logged eight minutes, scoring two points and dishing an assist. While it's easy to mock Haliburton's glee from the bench, you can't coach someone to genuinely feel joy from seeing their teammates produce while they mainly stay on the sideline.

Either you enjoy witnessing people succeed, or you don't.

Furthermore, Haliburton isn't solely happy for his teammates, as each win equals a victory for the Pacers' All-Star.

Kevin Durant set a Team USA scoring record, passing Lisa Leslie for all-time points scored in the Olympics.

However, from the bench, you'd think Haliburton beat the record in how he reacted with a giant smile, showing teeth and making comments while Durant was at the free-throw line.

Haliburton isn't the only one playing the support role. Pacers general manager Chad Buchanan detailed why he believed his star point guard deserves more playing time.

“It was great to see him out there. I still feel like he deserves more playing time, but he’s handling the situation like a professional and being a great teammate," Buchanan said.

Buchanan also admitted to understanding Steve Kerr's rotation decision.

"But with so much talent on the roster, it’s tough to give everyone the minutes they deserve. Ultimately, I’m happy for him. He’s representing our country with class and supporting his teammates. While I think he deserves more, I’m glad he’s there," Buchanan stated.

Kids watching the Olympics may not find many highlights from Haliburton, but they can better understand what makes a professional and an admirable teammate.
