Noah Lyles was the unquestioned favorite heading into Thursday's 200m final at the Paris Olympics. The American track star claimed gold in the 100m, and was prepared to do the same in his favorite event.

But instead of Lyles crossing the finish line in first, he came in with a third-place finish behind Botswana's Letsile Tebogo and his United States teammate Kenny Bednarek.

Lyles confidence and loud personality make him one of the sport's most electrifying athletes. But with Thursday's result, that confidence is coming back to bite him.

Before taking the track for the 200m final, Lyles sent a clear warning to his competitors — essentially guaranteeing a win in the event.

"I'll be winning... that man [Kenny Bednarek] ain't winning. None of them is winning," Lyles said. "When I come off the turn they will be depressed."

That trash talk is resurfacing on social media following his third-place finish.

Lyles looked exhausted after his 200m loss. Following the race, US Track and Field confirmed that the 27-year-old sprinter was diagnosed with COVID-19 earlier this week.
