Helping a nation reach the gold medal game of the Olympics is quite the feat for a player. This goes up a completely different level what the player in question is a young superstar playing for his country.

Following France's semifinal victory against Germany in front of their home crowd, young star Victor Wembanyama couldn't help but feel emotional about helping his country reach the final.

“It’s a chance to write history. The fans made it hard for me not to cry," Wembanyama said to Ben Golliver of the Washington Post.

Wembanyama had a rough day shooting from the field, only converting on four of his 7 attempts. However, he kept his head high as he finished with 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three blocks to help France pull out the 73-69 win against the Germans.

There was a moment when Wembanyama got cut around the neck area, still bleeding from it while he spoke to Golliver after the game. He wasn't too stressed out about it, as he explained why.

“In our national anthem, we talk about blood, too. We’re willing to spill blood on the court. It’s no big deal. If it allows us to win gold, I’m all for it," Wembanyama said.

Quite a strong statement for Wembanyama to say, especially with his country standing by his side as he hopes to give France their first-ever gold medal in basketball.

France awaits the winner between the United States and Serbia, beginning preparation for the gold medal game on Aug. 10.
