Spurs Victor Wembanyama to Take on Team USA in Gold Medal Game

It took everything the Americans had to get past Nikola Jokic and Serbia in the Olympic semifinals, as Team USA came back from a double-digit deficit to win, 95-91. Stephen Curry led all scorers with 36 points, going 9-14 from distance. Jokic posted 17 points and 11 assists but fell just short. He will have a date with Germany to play for a bronze medal on Saturday.

The main event will be San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama against "The Avengers," featuring 12 NBA talents looking to win the fifth-straight gold medal for Team USA men's basketball.

Wembanyama and France will be massive underdogs going into the Olympic finals, but that's nothing new to them. They were 7.5-point underdogs against Canada and were 5-point dogs against Germany, but pushed past both of the favorites to advance to the gold medal game.

That said, if Curry is hot like he was today, Team USA should be able to run away with it. Curry took his time to get going, scoring only 29 points total in the four games leading up to the win over Serbia, but his teammates always had faith in him.

"It was only a matter of time before he had a game like this," said LeBron James after the game.

Wembanyama, unlike Curry, has struggled from three all tournament, although the USA's dominating interior game might force him into continuing to try from deep.

France and the United States will tip off at 2:30 PM CST on Saturday, August 10, streaming on Peacock.
