Cowboys Legend Emmitt Smith Has Fiery Opinion of Team's Lackluster Offseason

The longer the Dallas Cowboys go without signing quarterback Dak Prescott or receiver CeeDee Lamb to contract extensions, the more unruly their fan base will be.

But it’s not just Cowboys fans who don’t like the way the team has handled contract negotiations with its top two offensive stars, franchise legend Emmitt Smith also appears to be near the end of his rope with Dallas’ front office as well.

“[Lamb] is a very, very valuable asset to the Dallas Cowboys,” Smith told SB Nation . “He is a very, very valuable asset to Dak Prescott . Without him on the football field, they're putting all of the pressure on Dak Prescott now, and that is unacceptable because every quarterback of his caliber should have quality people to throw the ball to — not no Plan B or no Plan C or no Plan D guy.

“[Prescott] should be in a position, as your franchise quarterback, he should be in a position to be successful. And right now you putting him behind the eight ball, and that is not right. That's how I see it.”

This isn’t the first time Smith has been critical of the Cowboys front office this offseason.

The Hall of Famer ripped into the team back in February on the heels of its embarrassing 48-32 home playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers because he felt the perception of the Cowboys isn’t up the standard it was back when he played for them.

Smith still feels that way months later, and he believes making a good-faith effort to re-sign both Prescott and Lamb is a start for the team to mend fences with its downtrodden fans.

“Over the last 20-some odd years, watching our team get to the playoffs time and time again, being told that we're going to do better, this is going to be a Super Bowl year for us, and we just get completely let down — it's like fan fatigue now,” Smith added.

“It's all of that going on right now. And people are sick and tired of watching it. And they want to see something different. …On the surface we would think everything is in alignment. But to me, I think there's a little disconnect there. And we need to resolve that fairly quickly because 20-some odd years, man, that's a long time."
