Most fans of the New York Mets cannot stand the likes of anything related to the City of Philadelphia. After all, the Phillies are longtime and heated rivals of the Metropolitans.

That doesn't mean their beloved players aren't capable of showing appreciation to each other, though.

Following a 9-1 win over the Colorado Rockies, Mets' All-Star first baseman Pete Alonso compared outfielder Tyrone Taylor to a Philadelphia Eagles legend.

“He plays like Brian Dawkins,” Alonso said after the game after Taylor made multiple key plays in the outfield. “He approaches the game in a super great way...He plays like a free safety out there, it’s super fun to watch.”

Dawkins is a Hall-of-Fame safety and one of the most beloved figures in Philadelphia sports history. He was a four-time first-team All-Pro, and nine-time Pro Bowler in his career with the Eagles while becoming one of the best defensive players in the NFL.

Taylor, on his own merit, is one of the better defensive outfielders in baseball with a WAR of 1.2.

The fact that Alonso's first comparison to his teammate is that of an Eagle may not be what many people want to hear for the Mets, but it's certainly worth it after an exciting win for New York.
