U.S. sprinter Noah Lyles' Paris Olympics did not have the fairy tale ending he was hoping for. On Thursday, the 27-year-old announced that he will no longer take part in the Summer Games after being diagnosed with COVID-19 .

Lyles' announcement comes after he finished with a bronze medal during Thursday's 200m race. This was after the outspoken track and field superstar bagged a gold medal in the 100m race on Sunday.

Amid this massive turn of events, Lyles' girlfriend, Jamaican Olympic runner Junelle Bromfield, sent an emotional message of support for her beau via Instagram.

"The run that I'm proudest about ❤️ 🙏🏾

"You are a fighter," Bromfield captioned her post.

Bromfield used a photo of Lyles from Thursday's race wherein the American finished third behind Letsile Tebogo of Botswana and U.S. teammate Kenny Bednarek, who won gold and silver, respectively.

According to Bromfield, she is most proud of Lyles for fighting through this race -- and claiming a podium finish -- despite his current medical condition.

For his part, Lyles has also been nothing but supportive of his partner, who is set to compete in the women's 4x400m relay on Friday.

"I'M SO PROUD OF YOU BABY 🥹 " Lyles captioned his post from Thursday morning.

Lyles, whose individual races in the Paris Games have already been completed, will no longer be able to participate in the 4x100m team relay final, which is scheduled for Saturday.
