In the old days, two losses meant you were definitely not getting into the College Football Playoff. But with the new model, could a three-loss team still have a shot to win the national title?

Greg McElroy believes so and explained the case for one particular contender on his YouTube show, "Always College Football." To no surprise, the former Alabama quarterback believes the Crimson Tide could still make the CFP field and dash to the championship even if they dropped three regular season games.

In a segment addressing the scenario where Alabama loses three games, McElroy expects fans to be none-too-pleased.

"Oh boy," he said. "That's the first reaction, right? 9-3 regular season, there will be alarm bells and sirens going off."

However, he also offered plenty of light at the end of the tunnel if Alabama does go 9-3 against their very difficult schedule.

"The craziest part about this whole scenario, though, is you could be looking at a potential three-loss Alabama team and they might still win the national championship," McElroy added.

"Let's just say they lost on the road at LSU, they lost at Tennessee and they lost at Oklahoma," he continued. "Just say you lose those three games."

Per McElroy, the resume of wins is still extremely solid.

"Under those circumstances, you lose those three, you still have a win against Georgia, you still have a win against Mizzou, two teams that are likely going to start the season ranked in the top 10," he pointed out. "You still have a win against Auburn, probably a 7-8 win football team, fringe top 25 team, and you still have a win at Wisconsin."

Even in what McElroy considers a worst-case regular season scenario, he still sees a path for Alabama to contend for the title at the end of the year.

"Tell me that resume won't possibly get you into the playoff," says McElroy of the 9-3 Crimson Tide.
