Fan-Favorite Olympic Athlete Hospitalized After Collapsing

South Korean pistol shooter Kim Ye-ji took home the silver medal at the Paris Olympics in the 10-metre air pistol event. In turn, she became viral due to her demeanor and her style, rocking some steampunk glasses that quickly grabbed everyone's attention.

For those reasons, she became a fan favorite and made plenty of waves throughout social media. It also helped that Elon Musk tweeted , "She should be cast in an action movie. No acting required!"

There was a tweet of Kim Ye-ji from the International Shooting Sport Federation Shooting World Cup back in May that became viral, registering over 37 million views on X.

On Friday, Kim was at a press conference in Imsil, South Korea, and collapsed due to stress and exhaustion, per a report from Reuters.

"South Korean Olympic silver medallist pistol shooter Kim Ye-ji, whose cool demeanor and appearance when competing at the Paris Games made her a social media sensation, collapsed at a news conference on Friday, apparently due to stress and exhaustion."

She would regain consciousness and was then taken to a local hospital for more tests, per the report.

Some reports stated that Kim Ye-Ji required CPR, but an official denied those claims.

On Wednesday, a video surfaced of Kim Ye-ji arriving at the Incheon Airport in South Korea to would is best classified as a "hero's welcome."

Kim Ye-ji's teammate, Oh Ye-jin, ended up taking gold in the 10-meter air pistol event, scoring 243.2 points. Still, Kim Ye-ji became a fan favorite and a viral sensation in just a matter of days in Paris.

It was also reported that she was likely exhausted after participating in the Olympics and is expected to stay in the hospital until she is fully recovered, per an official.
