Wembanyama's French Teammate Guerschon Yabusele Looking For NBA Return: Spurs Interested?

The San Antonio Spurs are working to fill up their roster this summer, making small signings with the hopes of finding a star in training camp they can add as a role player. As the Spurs build around Victor Wembanyama, finding a player who can gel with him remains a priority.

This summer, during the 2024 Paris Olympics, Wembanyama's French teammate Guerschon Yabusele has been hard to ignore, and his name is back on the NBA radar.

After being selected 16th overall by the Boston Celtics in 2016, Yabusele, 28, played in only 74 games with Boston over two seasons before taking his talents to Real Madrid. In Paris this summer, he has been the heart and soul of a French team that is getting ready to compete against Team USA in the gold medal game.

Yabusele has enjoyed success on court in Europe but is looking to make a return to the NBA.

"You gotta tell [Boston] to bring me back," he told Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe.

He is averaging 12.8 points in the Paris Games, and received MVP chants from the home crowd in France's victory over Germany in the semifinals. He scored 17 points in that matchup and added 22 in the game before, against Canada.

Clearly, Yabusele is at his best in the EuroLeague, but his very large frame, 6-8, 271 lbs, would allow him to be physical in the NBA. If he can make shots at the rate he does in Europe, he would be a deadly two-way force, and in France, he has demonstrated an ability to put the ball on the floor, even against NBA talents.

While the Spurs already have a full roster and would struggle to make room for Yabusele, it's hard not to imagine an NBA team giving him a chance to play in America next season.
