Braves Demote Dunshee After His Debut, Call On Logue

The Atlanta Braves are calling up another young arm to try to freshen things up.

In his MLB debut, Parker Dunshee came on in relief and allowed five runs in 2.1 innings in a blowout loss yesterday to the Milwaukee Brewers. He flashed good stuff with a three-strikeout inning , but he's going back to Triple-A Gwinnett for now.

In a corresponding move, Atlanta called up left-handed pitcher Zach Logue for the first time to bolster the pitching staff for the series at the Colorado Rockies .

It's not necessarily a punishment for Dunshee – he'll probably be among the options to get a call-up when rosters expand in September. Instead, it's an opportunity for Logue to spark a pitching staff that just allowed 34 runs on 52 hits in three games to the Brewers.

Logue has struggled thus far in his big league career, turning in a total 6.88 ERA across 17 appearances (10 starts) with two different American League clubs the past two seasons. He made three relief appearances with the Detroit Tigers in 2023 after making 14 appearances with the Oakland Athletics in 2022 – allowing 52 runs in 68 innings between the two seasons.

Nonetheless, Logue's Atlanta tenure is as much of a fresh start for him as it is for the club. He's looked primed for another big-league opportunity, going 4-6 with a 2.93 ERA in 20 games (12 starts) with 74 strikeouts in 83 IP this season in Gwinnett.

Logue provides flexibility to a staff that might need a multi-inning option. Spencer Schwellenbach is now slated to start on Sunday, but if not called on in relief, don't be surprised to see Logue make a spot start to bridge the gap until Reynaldo López is eligible to return from the injured list on August 18.
